About Wild Cape

Bill Savage got his first hive at 12 years of age and 40 years of his passion for beekeeping and the natural environment is undiminished.

Bill and his team of 10 specialist Beekeepers place their hives in the Manuka forests of the Wild East Cape region to gather the honey prized for its natural properties. Bill selects Manuka Forests that produce honey high in the UMF factor and places his hives in these isolated valleys far from the cities and highways.

Once the bees have stored the honey we gently blow them off the boxes of honeycombs and transport these boxes to our base in Gisborne. Operating under strict quality management systems we spin the honey frames to remove the honey so that we can return the combs to the beehives to fill with honey again. This honey is then tested using the UMF grading system to select the finest Manuka honey.

Finally, with great care, we put these quality honeys into jars bearing the Wild Cape Label. All Wild Cape Manuka Honey carries the UMF quality mark.

About the Region

The East Cape Region is the Eastern most tip of New Zealand. First populated by the Maori people who settled there for the warm dry climate, beautiful beaches and abundant seafood.

Geographically isolated by the Raukumara Ranges to the West and the Wharerata Ranges to the south the East Cape region has remained sparsely populated and unspoilt. Gisborne is the administrative centre and the only city located in the region. Large areas of land have been allowed to revert to native Manuka trees that we collect our honey from.

Wild Cape Honey owns Ahititi Forest a huge 1150Ha of manuka forest in the centre of the East Cape region. Ahititi forest is managed using environmentally sustainable practices to produce high UMF Manuka Honey while promoting the steeper portions to return to indigenous forest.

Each region produces a Manuka Honey with unique attributes. Our region produces high UMF honey but with a delicious mild flavor and light in color.

About UMF

The Manuka Tree is native to the scrublands of New Zealand. In the summer of each year, it flowers prolifically and bees love the richly scented flowers and collect the nectar to make this very special Manuka honey.

Wild Cape Manuka honey is 100% pure honey (containing no artificial ingredients) and all our honey is sourced from Bill Savages hives that he places in the Manuka forests of the Wild East Cape region.

Not all manuka honey contain the UMF factor and those that do contain varying levels. The UMF quality mark was created by the UMF Honey Association to measure these properties. This is the only association that carries out regular in-market audits of its licensees to ensure the honey meets their strict criteria. The UMF grading system appraises naturally occurring markers found only in Manuka honey and based on these markers gives the honey a rating. This is your assurance that UMF Manuka is genuine as only high purity Manuka honey will pass this test. The UMF honey association has a worldwide network of accredited laboratories that regularly audit UMF branded product to assure customers that it meets the UMF standard.

4 Reasons Why Most Diets Fail

7 Tips on how to maintain a youthful skin

Maintaining a youthful skin is almost everyone’s dream as we grow old. According to Doris Day who is a clinical assistant professor of dermatology at New York University Medical Center, only 20 to 30 percent of skin aging is genetically determined. This means that there is so much that you can do to slow down the rate at which your skin ages. Below is a list of the best tips on how you can maintain a youthful skin even at your 40’s.

  1.  Increase your Vitamin C intake

Healthy Orange Diet Health Cleaneating Fruit FoodDieting is a crucial part if you want to keep your skin healthy. According to a study that was done by American Journal of Nutrition on women above 40 years, it was found that those who took more vitamin C in their diet were less likely to develop wrinkles. This was compared with those that consumed lower levels of vitamin C. Vitamin C is vital for the formation of collagen. Without vitamin C in the body, amino acids can’t be linked for the formation of proteins. Some of the best sources of vitamin C include oranges, sprouts, broccoli, kiwi fruit and tomatoes.

2.  Protect your skin from sun’s rays

The sun’s rays are known to speed up the rate of collagen loss. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin thus destroying the collagen support structures. You should thus develop a culture of wearing SPF15 broad spectrum cream on sunny days. This will help shield your skin from the UVA and UVB rays.

3.  Use Retinol
Retinoid creams have been proven to help in boosting the rate of collagen production. However, they are only available on prescription. These creams work by reducing substances in the skin that destroy collagen after the skin is exposed to the sun. The creams also target skin receptors thus increasing the rate of collagen production.

4.  Wash your skin with honey.
Honey is a great antioxidant. When you clean your face with honey, it aids in opening up your skin pores. It also helps in moisturizing your skin. It has been tested and proven to work since the ancient times. For instance, it is said that Cleopatra used to take honey and milk baths in order to keep her skin wrinkle free and fresh. You should thus ditch your face wash since it might be having chemicals that are not good for the health of your skin and start using honey.

5.  Reduce your sugar intake.
cream-puff-2092988_640A lot of sugar intake accelerates skin aging. When sugar is broken and gets into the bloodstream, it bonds with elastin and collagen. This process is called glycation and it results to degrading of elastin and collagen. This eventually leads to skin sagging and wrinkling. You should thus cut down consumption of simple carbohydrates. These includes candy, soft drinks, white rice, white bread and cakes. If you have any sugar cravings, it is recommended that you take a piece of dark chocolate. The antioxidants found in black chocolate will help protect your skin from the free radicals that speed up skin aging.

6. Get enough sleep
woman-2197947_640According to Mary P. Lupo who is a clinical professor of dermatology at Tulane University, the human skin has a chance of repairing itself overnight. You should thus get enough sleep. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body gets stressed up. This makes it release stress hormones that damage your skin.

 7.  Hydrate

Foot Care For Diabetics – All You Need To Know

foot-bath-650874_640Daily inspection of your feet is one good advice given by foot healthcare experts, and especially if you are diabetic. Your feet should be checked at least yearly by a foot expert. Most serious foot problems can be solved by following some simple healthy steps written in the last paragraph of this article.

Many doctors give a general advice to diabetics to use special diabetic shoes and also diabetic foot care products almost all of the time. Diabetics are also advised to avoid being barefoot even if they are in the comfort of their homes. Foot care can be costly and health care experts give the best and most relevant foot care information. This information is aimed to help prevent expensive treatment due to the improper care of your feet.

Foot care products

There are diabetic foot care products like the diabetic socks that are engineered from anti-bacterial fibers that wick moisture away. This is a must have for all diabetics. Another type of special diabetic sock is the seamless sock. This type of sock reduces irritation, abnormal friction and even minimizes rubbing against the foot.

Diabetic insoles are specially made from gel or a moldable material. They are supplied by various podiatrists and are called orthotics. The insoles also provide padding and arch support that is of a specific shape of each individual’s feet.

Feet checks

alternative-medicine-1327808_640Annual visitations and consultations with a podiatrist usually solve minor problems like removing hard skin, calluses and corns. These are normal minor conditions on all growing people and the sessions take less than an hour with no pain at all. In fact, it even feels pleasant. For patients with diabetic foot ulceration, a removable cast walker or a total contact cast may be used.

Other major foot care treatments are diabetic lotion, foot cream, powder and spray. These kinds of products potentially reduce the risk of harmful foot microbes and fungus. Diabetic foot powders greatly reduce the amount of moisture. Foot care products like lotion should not be applied in between the toes or on feet skin that is too soft and moist. This can easily be a breeding ground for infections. Foot care lotions should be mostly used on dry feet skin and only applied on the top and bottom of feet.

relax-378476_640Prevention is better than cure and if you happen to have diabetes you are advised to have a podiatrist check your feet thoroughly at least annually.

The first step in prevention is to always wear shoes that fit well. For healthy, feet one should also keep their blood glucose in their respective range. Immediate attention should be sought if your foot has cuts, breaks or even has an ingrown nail. Your foot may also become less sensitive or pains in a particular area, this is also a verified reason to see your foot care expert.

Other home remedies in foot care that should be done to feet in terms of prevention are washing your feet daily, keep your feet skin soft and smooth, trim your toenails regularly and protecting your feet from hot and cold.

The 3 ‘Fat Loss Foods’ Sabotaging Your Results

Feel like you’re doing everything right on your diet plan but still not seeing the results you desire?

Many people find themselves in this position. They are working hard on their approach and taking care to follow their diet to the letter. But yet, something is amiss. The scale just isn’t going downward and they aren’t getting the results they were hoping for.

What gives?

Often, the big problem is not their effort or motivation. The problem is that they are letting certain foods into their diet plan that are sabotaging their results. Often these foods are designed to be fat loss foods but they really aren’t. Instead, they’re holding you back from success.

What are these foods? Let’s go over three foods that you need to cut out of your diet immediately.

Fruit Flavored Yogurts

8453554475_6a130a1c3b_zFruit flavored yogurts are a favorite among many dieters but little do they know they’re digging into pint-sized sugar bombs each time they eat a small container.

Next time you’re picking out your favorite yogurt, double check the sugar content. You might just find yourself surprised to know there are 15 or more grams of sugar per serving.

Of course you can purchase the sugar-free varieties, but then you’ll be taking in a number of unwanted artificial sweeteners, which can be just as bad for you.

Instead, opt for plain Greek yogurt. Flavor it yourself by adding a handful of fresh berries.

Fat-Free Products

meal-2165637_640Next up on the list of foods that you want to get out of your diet plan are any products that are built to be ‘fat free’. These often state that they are fat free on the label and proud of it.

But ask yourself, if the fat is removed, what is added? Something had to be added otherwise these just wouldn’t taste good.

The answer to that is sugar. Sugar has often been added to these foods and is what is causing them to still taste appealing.

And, if you are trying to lose body fat, sugar is just as bad — if not worse — than fat is.

Protein Bars

brownies-545064_640Finally, the last of the foods that you need to be careful about including in your diet plan are protein bars. These may seem like a great option since they do contain protein and you’re probably trying to get more protein into your day.

But once again, you need to check that sugar content. Most protein bars are upwards of 15 grams of sugar or more per bar. Some measure in as high as 30 or even 40 grams of sugar depending on the calorie content.

In actuality, these aren’t much more than a glorified chocolate bar. While you can buy a few bars that do keep the sugar content very low (five grams or less per bar), you do need to search for those. Be careful about buying these bars.

So there are three foods that you may be currently eating that could be causing you some issues. Are any of these in your diet?

If you want to learn the two must-eat foods that will help catapult fat loss into high gear, make sure that you check out The 3 Week Diet which goes over the harmful and helpful foods for weight loss.
